A Service of Loyalty
Good morning brethren, I like to write on a topic “A service of loyalty.” Scripture in Matthew 6: 24 says “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. What is Loyalty? Loyalty can be defined as faithfulness to commitments, in a simple lay man word, loyalty is a noble, unswerving allegiance, rooted in faith and love, that binds hearts together in common purpose. Loyalty also means steadfast faithfulness in the face of any temptation to renounce, desert, or betray. Please note that God requires loyalty from every believer and this is because God is faithful and faithfulness is one of God’s nature (Hebrew 10:23).
Loyalty calls for genuine and wholehearted service to God (Exodus 20:3), it also calls for unwavering commitment to the things of God, Hebrews 11:6 says “…. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.” Unfortunately in our world of today, friendship seems to be based on what people can benefit, hence it is a little difficult to find people with undivided loyalty (Proverbs 18:24). Loyalty is no doubt a trait, which can be demonstrated through our faithfulness and service to God (Joshua 24:14-18), and also through our obedience to Jesus’s teachings (John 6:66-69). As too many forces seems to target our loyalty in God’s service believers are therefore admonished to constantly pray in order to sustain their position as loyal children (Ephesians 6:10-12). Scriptures have many examples of people who demonstrated loyalty in their service to God. Jesus is our very first example, He was completely loyal to God and to His assignment (John 6:38), we also read in Acts 5:29 on how in the face of trials and persecution of the Disciples, they demonstrated loyalty. Daniel was another loyal person who remained loyal to God in prayer even when a decree was passed in Babylon that no one should pray to their God for a particular time (Daniel 6:10). Job was another loyal man, one who was misjudged by friends, advised by his wife to curse God but despite these, he remained loyal to God (Job 1:22).
In conclusion, loyalty is not completely dependent on being amongst believers groups or friends, but a trait cultivated from a deliberate desire to become faithful. Hence amongst unbelievers, you must endeavour to maintain your values and commitment to God just like Joseph did in Potiphar's house (Genesis 39). May the Lord help us to be faithful in Jesus name. Service is for 10.30am and workers meeting is for 10am. God’s blessings - Mike
