Is God Partial

Good morning brethren, I like to write on a topic “Is God Partial? What does being partial means? It means to be one side in a dispute above the other; biased, unjust, unfair, discriminatory, preferential, etc. Instead of just going to answer this question, perhaps it will be good to expand on some of the reasons many have asked or suggested the thought of “is God partial”? One of such reasons is what some observe as disparities in life experiences or inequality, for example some people are seen to be facing serious hardship while others seem to enjoy great fortune. People with this mindset (often new converts) question if God is fairly distributing blessings and favouring some people than others. These set of persons become loud when considering issues like poverty, illness, or even natural disasters. Therefore to answer the question if God is partial? The answer is no, scripture in Romans 2:11 says "For God shows no partiality.” Isaiah says in Isaiah 64:8 “Yet you, Lord, are our Father; we are the clay, You are the potter; we are all the work of Your hand." Therefore is we are the clay and God the Potter, who are we to question God? “Has the potter have no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honourable use and another for dishonourable use?” (Romans 9:21).

A quick explanation that comes to mind is the example someone once used, asking believers to see themselves as invention while God the Inventor. One thing is common about inventors, they are motivated or driven by purpose and so God as an Investor can choose whoever He wants to in order to achieve His purposes. If God choose one person over another, it doesn’t mean He is showing partiality towards the person He did not choose. Rather God is showing that He is the Creator and He is Sovereign over His creation and there is no obligation on His part. Scripture in Psalm 115:3 says “Our God is in the heavens; He does all that He pleases.” In addition, God’s choice on who to save or not is done in accordance to His will and for His glory. We read the example of God words regarding Pharaoh in Romans 9:17-18 “For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, ’For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.' So then He has mercy on whomever He wills, and He hardens whomever He wills." Therefore as believers, we can understand that God is not partial, Apostle Paul in Acts 10:34 says “God is not partial.” In the bible we read how God shows His compassion and love to mankind, He didn’t judge us, Proverbs 17:3 tells us that God is the examiner of the heart.

In conclusion the love God expressed in John 3:16 was not only for the Israelites but for everyone who exercises their faith in God. Service is for 10.30am and workers meeting is for 10am. God’s blessings - Mike
